Understanding if you're eligible

Fixed Customers

If you agreed a fixed price contract on or after the 1st December 2021, and the Government website displays a discount on the date your contract was agreed, then you will be eligible for a discount.

We will automatically adjust your invoices in line with the discount.

If your contract was signed on or before the 30th November 2021 then you are not eligible for the scheme and will receive no discount.

All fixed contract discounts are subject to a floor price set by the government of 21.1p/kWh for electricity contracts and 7.5p/kWh for gas contracts

Deemed and Out of Contract Customers

If you are a customer on an out of contract rate, a rollover or a deemed tariff then you will be automatically enrolled onto the scheme should you be eligible.

A maximum discount set by the Government will be applied of 34.5p/kWh for electricity customers and 9.1p/kWh for gas customers, which the Government may change

Out of Contract rates are subject to change, subject to notice, meaning that if market prices rise or fall, the government maximum discount will not change and therefore your prices may increase or decrease.

Eligibility – Who is eligible for the support?

I have a Fixed Contract agreement– am I eligible?

If you agreed a fixed price contract on or after the 1st December 2021, and the government website displays a discount on the date your contract was agreed, then you will be eligible for a discount. We will automatically adjust your invoices in line with the discount.

I have an Out of Contract tariff – am I eligible?

Any qualifying business that is on an out of contract tariff is entitled to receive assistance with their energy bills by way of a reduction of our standard out of contract rates and a further EBRS discount being applied. A maximum discount set by the Government will be applied of 34.5p/kWh for electricity customers and 9.1p/kWh for gas customers, which the Government may change.

Importantly, you will not be eligible to receive any reductions or discounts if the criteria for a Qualifying Financially Disadvantaged Customer (QFDC) is not met. If your account goes into debt for more than 28 days, and you have not agreed a repayment plan (or you have agreed a payment plan and have missed two or more repayments), your discount will be removed. This is a Government policy and not one that is set by Yorkshire Gas and Power.

How do I apply for this support?

You don’t need to apply or to contact us, all eligible customers will be contacted and have the support applied automatically.

What if I have gas & electricity with Yorkshire Gas & Power?

Each supply will be considered individually based on the eligibility criteria of the contract agreed.

If I am in a Fixed Contract, can I lose the discount prior to the end of the EBRS?

Yes, if you miss a payment on your account by the invoice due date your contract is at risk of being cancelled early and being placed on to an out of contract tariff.

If I am on an Out of Contract rate, can I lose the discount prior to the end of the EBRS?

Yes, to prevent the reduction and discount from being removed, please ensure that you do not miss any payments due on your account. If your account is being based on estimated readings, please contact us as soon as possible to provide a meter reading.

Billing – When does the support apply from?

Fixed contracts: The discount will apply to energy usage from 1st October 2022 to 31st March 2023

Qualifying Out of Contract customers: The discount will apply to energy usage from 1st October 2022 to 31st March 2023.

When will this be applied?

If you are eligible for a discount, you will be made aware of this, and the discount will be applied to your account before 12th December 2022.

What do I get a discount on?

The support only impacts the unit rate. Standing Charge, VAT and other billing items are excluded.

How long is the support applicable for?

The support currently applies for energy used until 31st March 2023, subject to qualifying criteria outlined above.
