Businesses are keeping a closer eye than ever on their energy costs.
Making small changes to the way you operate can sometimes mean big savings.
It’s important to be aware of where and when you’re using energy.
This allows you to identify where you can save in the long term.
To help, we always recommend looking to get a SMART meter installed.
Once you’ve got a clear picture of where and when you are using energy, here are 5 tips from the YGP team to help you improve your energy efficiency
1. Control your heating
Try to reduce heating temperatures in the winter by one degree. This can cut your heating bill by up to eight percent over the course of the year.
2. Switch the lights off
Having smarter lighting systems can save lots of energy. Light sensors that detect movement and switch off automatically can be beneficial. If you are only working in one part of a room, isolate the lights to that area. Make sure staff are only switching on the lights they need.
3. Involve your staff
The most effective energy saving programmes involve everybody within a business. Savings of ten percent are common when companies implement a company-wide policy.
4. Switch off office equipment
A single computer and monitor left on 24 hours a day can cost over £50 a year. Make sure you switch it off when they are not in use. Have a check how many computers are left on standby across your business.
5.Turning off the plugs
Switching off the plugs of the most energy consuming electricals can save you a lot of money.
Here’s a list of the biggest consumers (even when they are in standby):
Speakers
Chargers (Laptop and Phone)
Printers
TV’s, Boxes and Recorders
Microwaves
