Whether you’re moving into a new property or moving on from one, we know there’s plenty to organise. If you’re joining YGP, we’re delighted to have you on board. If you’re leaving, we’re sorry to see you go and we’d like to thank you for choosing us.
Firstly, to help us get your Change of Tenancy processed as quickly as possible, fill out our Change of Tenancy form and please provide as many of the documents listed below as you can.
The more information you provide upfront, the quicker we can assess your request. Then once we’ve received everything needed to review your application, we’ll aim to do so within 10 working days. If we need to come back to you for any additional information or documents, this could add a further 10 working days to the process.

2. Supporting Document Submission
Please prepare the documents in the list provided. You will be asked to email these during the form.
We request that all documents are clean, clear, in colour, taken with a camera/scanned with all information in view, and signed by all relevant parties.
Please submit all documents by email to changeofoccupancydocuments@ygp.co.uk with your property address in the subject line.
If you experience any difficulty emailing documents, you can mail physical copies to our office: CoT Team, Yorkshire Gas and Power, 4305 Park Approach, Thorpe Park, Leeds, LS15 8GB.
3. We’ll Confirm Your Change
We’ll review your details and confirm your Change of Tenancy in 10 working days. Once confirmed, we will send your bill whether that’s final or first bill depending on if you’re moving in/out.

Moving in:
A full list of the required documentation can be found on our website and within the COT application form. Typically, we require proof of identity, proof of sale or purchase, lease agreements or surrender documents, and any official documentation that supports the change of occupancy or tenancy. These need to be sent alongside the submitted form to changeofoccupancydocuments@ygp.co.uk
All utilities request supporting documentation as this allows us to verify the change of tenancy and ensure that we are protecting both outgoing and inbound customers against potential fraud or unauthorised account changes.
Once you have completed the online form and emailed the required supporting documentation to changeofoccupancydocuments@ygp.co.uk the team will conduct an initial review of everything. If all required evidence is received, then the change of tenancy will typically be processed within 10 working days of receipt. Should we require any further information to allow us to process the move in we will contact you directly.
The COT form is completed online here in our web portal. The questions asked will vary depending on your circumstances. Once you have completed this and submitted all required supporting documents the Change of Occupancy Team will then look to process your request in 10 working days.
Provided the form and the required documents needed are all received, then we will look to complete your change of tenancy within 10 working days. If we have not received everything we need then the team will reach out to you and this will extend this standard SLA.
No. A Change of Tenancy must be fully processed and completed before you can look to change supplier. If the site is still registered to us with a valid contract in the name of the previous occupier we will automatically object to this.

Please submit all the required Change of Tenancy documentation at the same time you fill in the form to the changeofoccupancydocuments@ygp.co.uk email address, this will help to ensure your COT can be processed in the 10-day SLA.
A TR1 form is a HM Land Registry document which is used to prove the transfer of ownership for property. It can be obtained directly from the HM Land Registry website, through a solicitor or conveyancer.
Yes. The property will continue to be supplied by YGP until the Change of Tenancy process is completed.
Update on COT:
Our aim is to process all of our Change of Tenancy requests within 10 working days from receipt so please ensure all of your documents as well as the form were all submitted.
Once we have received everything YGP will look to process the change within 10 working days if any further information is required, we will contact you directly.
In order for us to process the transfer of responsibility, you will need to complete the Change of Occupancy process both the form and provision of the necessary documents. Once everything is received we will look to process the change within 10 working days and send you your final bill.
Our responsibility is to ensure that the correct individual or business is held liable for energy consumption at the property. Additional documentation, such as a lease agreement, helps us verify occupancy and ensure we are billing all of our customers accurately.
YGP will provide updates to you at key stages of the process. If no further information is required, you can expect communication within our standard 10 working day review period.
It’s important to YGP that we treat all our customers fairly and therefore we must ensure that all Change of Tenancy requests are valid before making changes to an account. This can involve obtaining and reviewing information from external parties, including local authorities, who may have varying response times. This is not the case for all customers, the majority can be completed within the 10 day SLA.
If you can provide us with the details of the new tenant this helps us to process the Change of Tenancy more effectively as it allows us to validate their tenancy with them and complete the transfer of responsibility for the energy supply is transferred accurately and efficiently.
You are only responsible for energy consumption during the period in which you were liable for the property. Once the Change of Tenancy has been completed, any charges applied beyond your liability period will be reviewed. Any overpayment identified will be refunded.
Moving Out:
No. In addition to completing the online Change of Tenancy, you must submit the required supporting documentation to changeofoccupancydocuments@ygp.co.uk . A full list of accepted documents can be found on our website.
Once we receive your request and supporting documentation, our team will review the information provided. If all required information and documents have been received, your Change of Tenancy will be processed within 10 working days. If any additional information is required, a member of the team will contact you with details of what is needed.
We aim to complete all Change of Tenancy requests within 10 working days of receiving all required supporting documentation.
Yes. We will contact the incoming occupier or tenant to confirm responsibility for the property and validate the Change of Tenancy details.
Yes. Once the Change of Tenancy has been completed, the new occupier or tenant is free to switch to an alternative supplier if they wish.
If your documents have been sent to changeofoccupancydocuments@ygp.co.uk , they will be received by our team and added to your account for review as part of the Change of Tenancy process.
There are several reasons why you may continue to receive communications or invoices. Your Change of Tenancy may still be in progress, or you may have received a final bill relating to your period of occupancy. Once the Change of Tenancy has been completed and any outstanding balance has been settled, no further invoices will be issued to you.
